# A Day at the Races: Lions in the York University Suite at Markham Indy
There are Lions Club meetings, and then there are Lions Club outings — and yesterday firmly belonged to the second category. Four of our own traded the usual boardroom for the roar of engines at Markham Indy, courtesy of a gracious invitation from York University, who hosted us in their private suite for an afternoon that mixed horsepower with hospitality.
## Who Showed Up
Representing the Lions Club of Markham Mantra in style:
- Lion Gulshan Sethi
- Lion Darshanjit Badrain
- President Lion Harry Dhingra
- Secretary Lion Shusmita Sharma Tiwari
Four Lions, one suite, and a whole lot of good conversation over the sound of engines doing what engines do best.
## The Guest of Honour Behind the Invite
Our hosts for the day were the good people at York University, and it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with Dan Palermo, Dean of York University Markham. Between laps on the track, there was plenty of time to talk community, education, and the kind of partnerships that make Markham the kind of place worth being a Lion in. It's always a good sign when an afternoon meant for racing ends up being just as memorable for the people you meet as for what's happening on the track.
## The Vibe
Picture it: engines thundering by, the suite buzzing with conversation, and a rare chance for our club leadership to trade the usual agenda-and-minutes format for something a little more relaxed. Racing has a way of doing that — giving people room to talk business without it feeling like business. By the end of the day, what started as an invitation had turned into the start of what looks like a promising relationship between our club and York University's Markham campus.
## Why It Matters
Moments like these are a reminder that community building doesn't always happen around a boardroom table. Sometimes it happens in a suite overlooking a racetrack, over shared laughs and the occasional gasp at a good overtake. Our thanks go out to York University for the invitation, and to Dean Dan Palermo for the warm welcome — we're already looking forward to what comes next.
Until the next lap — Lions Club of Markham Mantra
